Medal of Honor Recipient. Ed W. Freeman passed away on Wednesday Aug. 20, 2008. As a flight leader and second in command of a 16-helicopter lift unit in Vietnam, Captain Ed Freeman went where others didn't dare. After an area was medically evacuated, it was deemed too dangerous for further helicopter missions. While other helicopters stayed behind, Capt. Freeman flew 14 separate missions that saved an estimated 30 soldiers.
