From the CMOHS Archives

In all liklihood, Andrew Davidson was born in Ireland, not in Middlebury, Vermont. All of his civilian documentation gives Ireland as his place of birth. However, at the time he enlisted in the Army, he gave the location as Middlebury. This was not uncommon as social prejudices at the time held a negative view of Irish immigrants. His official military records still record his birthplace as Middlebury.
