PFC DeGlopper Laid Cover Fire,
Allowing his Platoon a Safe Withdrawal
December 18th, 2005--
Private First Class DeGlopper advanced with his platoon towards the Merderet
River at la Fiere in France during World War II. They hoped to secure a
bridgehead, but they became cutoff from the rest of their Army company.
Vastly superior numbers of German forces hammered their position. Sensing
they were about to be flanked and defeated, PFC DeGlopper volunteered to
cover his comrades lone path of withdrawal by leaving the safety of their
roadside ditch. Despite being wounded several times, DeGlopper persevered
and successfully covered...
