William O'Brien Bravely led forces at Saipan in the Marianas Islands
Lieutenant Colonel O'Brien risked life and limb while going above and beyond what could've been asked of him while fighting the Japanese at Saipan in the Marianas Islands. At one point he personally charged his own tank which was accidentally firing on his own men and directed their fire by banging on the exterior while mounted and exposed to the enemy. On another occasion he crossed 1200 yards of sniper-infested underbrush alone to help rescue one of his platoons...
