Private First Class James H. Monroe and his platoon were sent out
to prepare for a nighttime ambush on the North Vietnamese. But it was Monroe's
platoon that was surprised by a heavy and deadly accurate barrage of grenades.
Private Monroe spotted a foxhole that was immediately hit and without hesitation
headed over to it despite heavy small arms fire. But when he reached the foxhole
he found no survivors. Hearing calls for aid Monroe crawled back through the
heavy fire and reached his sergeant's position...
