John W. Minick led charge through an exposed minefield in Germany
Staff Sergeant John W. Minick's battalion was halted by an expanse of minefields. This allowed the Germans to lay down heavy fire upon the stalled battalion. Something needed to be done and pulled off quickly. Minick voluntarily led 4 men through the barbed wire and debris infested minefields and personally took out a machinegun crew (killing 2 and capturing 3). Continuing forward he single-handedly came upon and neutralized an entire German company. He killed 20 and captured another 20 German soldiers... >>READ HIS FULL CITATION<<
