Captain Versace held firm for 23 months as a Viet Cong prisoner
Army Captain Rocky Versace spent 23 months as a prisoner of the Viet Cong. Being the ranking officer in the prison camp, Versace loudly and defiantly demanded humane treatment for his fellow captors. Captain Versace only had two more weeks of duty left before he could leave Vietnam but was among those caught in an ambush. He was executed by his captors in 1965. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor just this past Monday, July 8th, 2002.
