Sergeant MacGillivary ventured alone to destroy 4 enemy machineguns
Charles MacGillivary displayed great courage and ability by volunteering to go it alone to neutralize Nazi machinegun emplacements on a cold, snowy New Year's Day in 1945. In the cover of darkness in the early morning MacGillivary took the initiative to take out an enemy machinegun. Later in the afternoon that same day he proceeded to eliminate another 3 machineguns while becoming seriously wounded. Through the Sergeant's actions his company was able to continue its mission and minimize casualties.
