Every year during May, we take the opportunity to show our gratitude to current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
In preparation for the upcoming month, we invite you to join us in honoring and remembering those who have bravely served our country. We thank them and their families for their sacrifice and commitment.
Military Appreciation Month was officially established by Congress in 1999. Each year, the President issues a proclamation encouraging Americans to celebrate this patriotic month by paying tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our country. This is also the perfect opportunity to express gratitude to the families of service members and the organizations that support the military community.
While many Medal of Honor Recipients will participate in activities throughout the month of May that spotlight the sacrifice and dedication of the military community, the Recipients uphold this commitment year-round through the Society’s Veterans Outreach Program. This program provides Medal of Honor Recipients with the opportunity to show their support to both Veteran and active-duty military communities by championing the resiliency and wellness of these brave men and women. Additionally, they carry the message of the Medal of Honor forward with messages of leadership, character-building, patriotism, legacy, and integrity. Often, they speak to non-profit veteran-related organizations or military service academies to inspire service members in both their personal and professional lives.
