The Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Upcoming October Events
With October just around the corner, we wanted to share some exciting events and celebrations we have taking place throughout the month. Here at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, we are proud to host these activities with the generous help of our partners and supporters.
We hope that you can join us in October for these events.
Filipino American History Month
During the month of October, we acknowledge Filipino American History Month to commemorate the first known presence of Filipinos on the American continental United States back in 1587. To date, there are four known Medal of Honor Recipients of Filipino descent: Telesforo Trinidad, Jose Nisperos, Rudolph Davila, and Jose Calugas. We invite you to follow along on our social media channels as we share their stories of service and sacrifice.
Italian American Heritage Month
The month of October also marks Italian American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the contributions and achievements of Italian immigrants and their descendants living in the United States. Over the course of the month, we will share the stories of Italian-Americans who have received the Medal of Honor for their service. We will highlight these stories of valor across our social channels and invite you to follow along and share with your connections.
Character Development Program Training in Des Moines, Iowa
On Oct. 3, our Medal of Honor Character Development Program will host an in-person training session in Des Moines, Iowa. All educators who work with middle and high school students are invited to attend. The session will provide teachers with everything they need to know about the program and provide them with the resources they need at no cost. If you’re an educator, we invite you to attend and discover how you can share important values connected to the Medal of Honor with your students.
Fisher House Webinar
Fisher House Foundation, helping military families stay together during a medical crisis for more than 30 years, and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, the organization comprised of our nation’s Medal of Honor Recipients, welcomes all concerned members of the public to tune in to a conversation on the impact of post-traumatic stress related to military service.
ABC News Correspondent Kyra Phillips will host this virtual discussion between Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of the Fisher House Foundation, and Medal of Honor Recipients Florent Groberg and Kyle White on Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. ET as they share their perspectives on the best ways to support service members and their families when they are struggling with mental and invisible wounds of war.
