Veterans Outreach Program | VETLANTA Q3 Virtual Summit
On August 13th, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society had the opportunity to partner with VETLANTA for their virtual third-quarter summit. VETLANTA is a networking and community service club in Atlanta, GA operated exclusively for Veterans. Typically, VETLANTA connects Veterans with one another at in-person events. However, in light of the global pandemic, they have made the shift to virtual summits.

VETLANTA Joins the Veterans Outreach Program
Near the end of 2019, VETLANTA was introduced to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society (CMOHS) by its partners at The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. VETLANTA heard about the opportunity to have a Medal of Honor Recipient speak to Veterans through CMOHS’s Veterans Outreach Program. Lloyd Knight, President of VETLANTA, displayed an interest and reached out to CMOHS. This partnership was invaluable to VETLANTA, as CMOHS offers a grant to cover the expenses associated with having a Medal of Honor Recipient speak at Veterans-related events.
The Q3 Virtual Summit was not the first time a Medal of Honor Recipient came on as a keynote speaker for one of VETLANTA’s summits. Recipient David Bellavia spoke at the Q4 Summit in 2019. Bellavia also visited the VA Hospital, conducted a visit to Lockheed Martin, and appeared on an episode of the Veteran Voices podcast.
VETLANTA Q3 Virtual Summit
There are more than 3,000 members of VETLANTA, and the purpose of its quarterly summits is to attract, inspire, and inform members of the organization as well as connect its members with organizations and businesses in the Atlanta area that offer support to Veterans and their families.
Breakout and Networking Sessions
As a way to attract and retain new members, and grow the organization, VETLANTA recently incorporated breakout sessions to their quarterly summits. The Q3 Summit began with five breakout sessions. In addition, VETLANTA also included a 30-minute Networking Session, which featured a slideshow of different Veteran non-profit organizations and businesses that are hiring and supporting Veterans.
Keynote Speaker: Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams
As part of the summit’s keynote session, Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams discussed the work he is currently doing with his organization, the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. One of the organization’s goals is to create monuments which “honor, recognize, and serve Gold Star Families and the legacy of their Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.” Williams spoke of the organization’s efforts to ensure that each state has a monument honoring the sacrifice of Gold Star Families while also highlighting the role the Veterans play in our communities.
