Since its inception in 1958, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society has had one driving mission: to support Medal of Honor Recipients and preserve their living histories for many generations to come. Your support allows us to keep their stories alive, perpetuate the legacy of the Medal, and promote the values and ideals on which the Medal was founded.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society has five critical mission objective areas: education, connection, inspiration, preservation and support. Through the investment of generous supporters, these initiatives are maintained. Now more than ever, we must work to not only continue this work, but advance it, together.
The Congressional Medal of Honor Society aims to empower youth and adults with knowledge to strengthen communities and change lives. The following initiatives support this goal:
.
The Character Development Program is a no-cost curriculum, providing lessons that teach K-12 students about the values of the Medal of Honor. It was developed by teachers, for teachers, and has already distributed over 75,000 digital resource curriculum kits to schools and trained 17,500 educators.
This all-in-one display includes a Recipient citation database, plus select oral histories, to encourage the discovery of all Medal of Honor Recipient stories. They have been installed in more than 35 museums across the country.
The Medal of Honor Society offers college scholarships to children of Recipients. Each year, 5 to 6 Recipient children receive this generous gift.
Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty and Choosing Courage: Inspiring True Stories of What it Means to Be A Hero are both distributed to schools, businesses, and individuals thanks to the generosity of the Society’s supporters.
The Society aims to bring Recipients together and bridge important gaps with the American public, as well as address wellness and resiliency for Veterans. These programs are the result:
.
The Veteran’s Outreach Program allows Recipients to use their platform to address wellness, resilience, and suicide prevention with Veterans and active military. This program connects 60 to 100 attendees at four to six events each month.
Recipients regularly serve as speakers, panelists, and participants at events of all sizes and formats to address topics like leadership, character-building, patriotism, and integrity.
Our Annual Society Conventions provide opportunities for Recipients to reconnect and remember those who have passed while conducting Society business and engaging with their convention host communities.
Our inspiration initiative works to encourage all Americans to live lives of significance by recognizing those who uphold the values of the Medal of Honor – courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism. The following are some of our awards:
.
Other awards include the John R. “Tex” McCrary Award for Excellence in Journalism and the Bob Hope Award for Entertainment.
The Society works to protect and preserve the legacy of the Medal of Honor and the sacrifices made on behalf of us all through a presence in archives and museums. Our South Carolina headquarters serves as the Society’s archives and supports the museum onboard the USS Yorktown at Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, SC.
.
Fulfilling the Society’s priority to support Recipients’ well-being is important to us. Our Healthcare and Advocacy Program customizes health, medical, and other wellness programs for Recipients and their families.
.
Now more than ever, the Society needs your support. Join us in perpetuating the legacy of the Medal of Honor and honoring our nation’s heroes. Here’s how you can make a direct impact today:
