The annual Medal of Honor Convention aims to reconnect Recipients with each other, honor those who have passed, foster the Medal of Honor’s values, and recognize patriotic American citizens from around the country.
We are excited to announce that we are hosting our annual Congressional Medal of Honor Convention and Patriot Award Dinner this September in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston has hosted the Convention three times since its inception, and we are thrilled to invite many of the 67 living Recipients back for another year.
The city has provided us with a warm welcome and has shown the utmost respect for the Recipients.
Previous Conventions included many activities centered around community initiatives and education outreach with our Character Development Program and Veterans Outreach Program.
In the past, the Recipients visited schools surrounding the cities where the Convention was held. They connected with students and taught them about the importance of the core values of the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, patriotism, courage, and integrity. In addition, the Recipients took part in a variety of fun events including book signings and even a ceremonial puck-drop at a hockey game.
Our Conventions culminate with the Patriot Award Gala. During this part of the week, Recipients present awards to Americans who have distinguished themselves by upholding the ideals and values represented by the Medal of Honor. The Patriot Award is the highest award the Society can bestow upon an individual. The honorees consist of citizens who have made outstanding contributions to service members, veterans, and their families.
Planning events such as this Convention and continuing educational outreach amid the pandemic is challenging. We will be working to ensure the safety of the Recipients and those who take part in Convention outreach.
Depending on the environment come September, we will be prepared to take the event online or postpone it to adhere to Boston’s COVID-19 guidelines. We still expect to host an exciting event, even if it does occur virtually.
We look forward to meeting with many of the Recipients and their loved ones in Boston this year to celebrate the virtues and values of the Medal of Honor.
