March 25 was established by Congress as National Medal of Honor Day to “foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor recipients.”
As the Congressionally chartered organization for the 65 living Medal of Honor Recipients, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society is grateful for the nation honoring the 3,516 Recipients who have received the Medal since the Civil War. Yet we are most appreciative of the opportunity it offers to reinforce what this day means to us.
Come discover the stories of Medal of Honor Recipients at Patriots Point! This Medal of Honor Day at the Recipients’ headquarters at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, SC, we will be offering two special Medal of Honor events: Medal of Honor Storytelling Tours and the Medal of Honor Visitor Experience.
Tours are available at 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm. These exclusive tours, offered only on National Medal of Honor Day, March 25, will feature the places and artifacts that symbolize the stories of America’s heroes, including a special behind-the-scenes experience. Tickets can be purchased through the Patriots Point website. Click on “Enhance Your Experience.” Tour participants will walk away with special Medal of Honor commemorative items to continue their journey.
The Medal of Honor Visitor Experience is included in general admission tickets from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Docents will be stationed at Medal of Honor Informational Checkpoints around Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum to share the stories of America’s greatest military heroes next to the artifacts that illustrate their stories.
