November is National Veterans and Military Family Month. It is a time to honor veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. Throughout the month, we should all be intentional about serving those who have sacrificed so much for our country. 

Not only do we use this time to honor active duty service members and veterans to thank them for their service, but we also take time to recognize all military families who have gone weeks, months, and years missing their loved ones in the service.

How do we celebrate Military Family Month?

This month, we encourage you to look for ways to serve and honor these families who have sacrificed so much time with their fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and friends in the service to help defend our country.

Here are a few ways to do so: 

• Say “thank you” in person or with a thoughtful card
• Buy their groceries
• Help with household chores
• Babysit their kids for a night of rest
• Simply ask them, “How can I help you?”

Veterans Appreciation Month

In addition to appreciating the families with active duty loved ones, November is also a time to thank Veterans for the time they spent in service to our country by listening to their stories, saying “thank you,” volunteering at or donating to Veterans support organizations, or simply spending time with a Veteran. 

As President Reagan said, “We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give…Most of all, we remember the devotion and gallantry with which all of them ennobled their nation as they became champions of a noble cause.” 

About the Congressional Medal of Honor Society 

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Medal of Honor and its Recipients, inspiring Americans, and supporting the Recipients as they connect with communities across the country. Chartered by Congress in 1958, its membership consists exclusively of those individuals who have received the Medal of Honor, including 66 living Recipients.
