Organizations can help champion Society’s unique, free Character Development Program
The Congressional Medal of Honor Society (the Society), the nation’s only non-profit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress to preserve the legacy of the Medal of Honor and its Recipients, today announced its intention to promote its Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP) through a social partnership with organizations and individuals who support character curriculum: PACCT or Partners and Advocates of Character Curriculum.
As part of its mission to champion the values of the Medal of Honor—courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship—the Society created its Medal of Honor Character Development Program to assist educators in the critical work of providing K-12 students exposure to the values that are embodied by the Medal of Honor.
“Social emotional learning is a key part of the development of students, and we created the Congressional Medal of Honor Character Development Program to help educators in the pursuit of this important effort,” said Catherine Metcalf, Executive Director for Education for the Society.
Metcalf added, “Along with traveling to cities across the U.S. to provide training in the curriculum, often with the participation of Medal of Honor Recipients, we are conducting webinars and increasing our efforts to leverage social media to connect with organizations that support our mission.”
As a member of the Society’s social media PACCT, organizations and individuals all over the country can support the Congressional Medal of Honor Society by simply sharing information about the CDP with their networks.
The curriculum features more than 80 lessons that cover extraordinary military and civilian stories that provide students with examples by which to live. Built to be flexible, the program is appropriate for public, private, charter, homeschool, and extra-curricular settings and is available at no cost to educators. All lessons and resources, including a virtual training session on how to use the program effectively, are accessible for educators 24/7 through the online platform.
Metcalf summed up the value proposition for interested parties: “Participation is free, but the outcomes we can achieve through a Medal of Honor-centric character program are invaluable.”
