How You Can Nominate a Citizen Hero
Every day, ordinary people do extraordinary things. That’s what our Citizen Honors Awards are all about. Each year, a nationwide search is conducted to select five U.S. citizens and one organization to receive our Citizen Honors Award. Honorees are recognized for their bravery or for their continued service to others by our nation’s greatest heroes, the Medal of Honor Recipients.
As part of our search to find these outstanding individuals and organizations, we ask people from across the country to nominate those in their lives that have displayed extraordinary acts of courage or service. Read on to discover how you can nominate a citizen hero for our Citizen Honors Awards below.
Who Can Be Nominated?
For our Citizen Honors Awards, we are looking for U.S. citizens who have clearly demonstrated a willingness to put their own life at risk for others or those who have dedicated themselves to the service of others – Americans whose exceptional courage and selfless service embody the values of the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship. These actions must epitomize the concept of “service above self” and should be performed “above and beyond” the individual’s job responsibilities or daily tasks.
A panel assembled by the Society will consider all nominations and select finalists for the Citizen Honors Awards in the following categories: Single Act of Heroism; Service Act; Community Service: Young Hero; and Youth Service.
Nominate a Citizen Hero
If you know of someone who deserves recognition for their extraordinary acts, we invite you to nominate them for the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s 2022 Citizen Honors Awards.
Please keep in mind that the actions or series of actions must have taken place in the last year and that self-nominations for individual awards will not be accepted. If you are nominating a community organization, they must be certified nonprofits and must currently be in operation.
We look forward to hearing your stories about individuals or organizations who have gone above and beyond for others. To submit a nomination, please fill out this form to tell us a little bit about yourself and the nominee. We will accept submissions from now until Nov. 1, 2021. The presentation of the awards by the Medal of Honor Recipients to those selected will take place next year.
