We are proud to support the Medal of Honor Recipients in their work and service beyond the call of duty.
Today, they continue to be committed to serving our country through community outreach programs and education initiatives. The Medal of Honor Recipients continue to champion the values of courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship to all those they meet.
We would like to share their stories with you and explore some of the work that they do throughout the United States. The Society’s Outreach Program consists of two parts: the Veterans Outreach Program and the Recipient Outreach Program.
The Medal of Honor Recipients carry out the values and message of the Medal by serving as speakers or participants in topics of leadership, character-building, patriotism, legacy, and integrity.
Through the Recipient Outreach Program, Recipients connect with public organizations that are positively impacting their communities and who value the characteristics of the Medal of Honor. In the past, they have been able to share the values of the Medal of Honor and their stories in seminars, panel discussions, conventions, or patriotic dedications.
Through the Veterans Outreach Program, Recipients work with organizations that target the resiliency and wellness challenges of the Veteran and active-duty military communities. While not trained clinicians, Recipients use their personal experiences to engage through motivation, inspiration and providing a positive example.
The Recipients have served through this program in a variety of ways. They have spoken at events with VETLANTA and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, through events like Medal of Honor Day and the Medal of Honor Convention, Recipients reconnect with one another, conduct Society business, and engage with the local community.
Medal of Honor Day is right around the corner on March 25th, and we are looking forward to honoring those who have given so much of their time and dedication to bettering our country. Throughout the week, there will be events such as the Medal of Honor Wreath Laying at Arlington Cemetery and the announcement of the 2021 Citizen Honors Awards. Both of these events further demonstrate the work of the Recipients and their willingness to give, even on a day dedicated to their service. We are proud to support them in their work.
