The National Salute to Veteran Patients
Every year during the week of February 14th, we take the opportunity to show our gratitude and support to the nine million veterans who receive medical treatment yearly from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Their care covers a wide range of services through medical centers, outpatient clinics, domiciliaries, and nursing homes. Just under one hundred thousand veteran patients receive medical treatments daily in these facilities.
During the National Salute To Veteran Patients, we invite you to join us in honor and remembrance of those that have bravely served our country.
About the National Salute to Veteran Patients
The Department of Veterans Affairs develops programs to benefit both veterans and their families. Specifically, they provide integrated life-long healthcare services to eligible military veterans.
The National Salute to Veteran Patients aims to bring veterans, their communities, and Veterans Affairs organizations closer together. The event has been designed to help pay tribute to veterans, increase community awareness of Veterans Affairs centers, encourage visits to hospitalized service members, and promote volunteer opportunities with the VA.
The week-long event typically includes visits and valentine distributions, photo opportunities, school contests, recreational activities, and veteran recognition programs. The Department of Veterans Affairs is a national entity with facilities all across the country. Each one hosts its own events to commemorate this celebration.
Our Work With Recipients
The Congressional Medal of Honor Society was established by Congress in 1958 and consists of the Recipients of the nation’s highest military award for valor, The Medal of Honor.
The Society’s focus is to educate, connect, inspire, preserve, and support Recipients. Our initiatives specifically focus on healthcare advice and advocacy. We understand the importance of supporting our Recipients to help them to continue to focus on their outreach initiatives. From working with veteran-related organizations to target the resiliency and wellness challenges of the veteran and active-duty military communities to providing healthcare advice and advocacy to Medal of Honor Recipients and their families, part of the Society’s mission is to support all efforts to ensure that veterans have access to health and wellness services that they may need.
We invite you on this journey of supporting service members through medical outreach by contacting your nearest VA Medical Center to see how you can volunteer and salute your local veterans.
