Supplement Your Lesson Plan
Medal of Honor Character Development Program lessons are grounded in cross-curricular academics, making it simple for educators to incorporate them into an existing curriculum and double the accomplishments in their precious class time. Built to be flexible, the Character Development Program is appropriate for public, private, charter, homeschool, and extra-curricular settings. The materials can be used in a traditional classroom environment as well as a remote-learning setting.
Lead Students by Example
Character is best taught by example and there are no better examples than our nation’s greatest heroes. This program inspires students through live interviews with Medal of Honor Recipients as well as extraordinary stories of civilian heroes. Lesson plans are based on the Medal of Honor’s six core values of courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, patriotism and citizenship.
Build Character in the Classroom
Students participating in the Character Development Program learn invaluable lessons in the classroom that they will carry with them throughout life. Living history videos and lessons teach students that ordinary people can meet great challenges and make the world around them a better place. In addition, each lesson highlights skills such as writing, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Free Resource for Educators
The entire Character Development Program is available at no cost to educators. The curriculum includes individual and group activities, worksheets and extended activity suggestions, and resources such as Medal of Honor citations, live and archived webinars, and an extensive living history collection. Lesson plans are available for grades K-12, with Elementary lessons curated by grade level and Secondary lessons organized by value.
Also, check out our new curriculum series Dear Young American, a set of short lessons that build on one another, featuring brief videos of Medal of Honor Recipients giving advice to the next generation.
