How Recipients Continue to Serve With Our Veterans Outreach Program
Many Medal of Honor Recipients still continue to serve our country today by sharing their stories and the lessons they have learned both in their military careers and in life.
Our Veterans Outreach Program connects Recipients to veteran and active-duty communities, often to address resilience and wellness challenges. In the past, Recipients have participated in a variety of events such as seminars, forums, professional development sessions, and leadership workshops. Here is a look at some of the events that Medal of Honor Recipients have recently participated in as part of our Veterans Outreach Program.
“Breaking the Wall of Silence”: Medal of Honor Recipient Forum on Active Duty and Veteran Suicide Prevention
On May 27th, we partnered with the Center for American Values to present a virtual forum focused on reducing the stigma of military members openly talking about PTS and suicide prevention. “Breaking the Wall of Silence” featured Medal of Honor Recipients Florent Groberg and Allen Lynch. They shared their perspectives and personal experiences surrounding PTS, helping the audience gain a better understanding of our active duty and veteran populations.
If you are interested in viewing this event, we invite you to watch the full recording here. This is a great opportunity to acknowledge and participate in PTS Awareness Day – taking place on June 27th.
Walk the Walk – Dedication of the Nebraska Medal of Honor Highway
Last month, American Legion members Daryl Harrison and Ken Hanel completed the “Walk the Walk,” a 432-mile dedication of the Nebraska Medal of Honor Highway.
For twelve days, the men journeyed across the state of Nebraska, stopping at different towns along the way. On May 22nd, they finished their journey at Siouxland Freedom Park and were welcomed with a celebration featuring Medal of Honor Recipient James McCloughan.
“Love America – A Salute to Patriotism”
Medal of Honor Recipient Robert M. Patterson was the keynote speaker for an event called “Love America – A Salute to Patriotism” put on by American Veterans First.
